Finally! A Marvel superhero comic
turned into a movie that dosen't inhale massively! Ever since Captian
America, The Punisher, and the previously aborted Fantastic Four and
Spiderman movies, I've had a lot of trepidation about an X-Men movie.
Thankfully, they did it justice.
Okay, it's not quite perfect. Long-time fans of the comic will find a lot of character history changes that blow away some future plot devices that happened in the comics. For instance, Wolverine has no Weapon X history, and Rogue has no apparent way to steal Ms. Marvel's powers/personality because she dosen't start out evil. We can forgive them some of these things, tho, because they did some things quite well. They did a quite creditable job of portraying Wolverine, Jean Grey, and Rogue. Patric Stewart and Ian McKellan are perfect players for Professor X and Magneto. Cyclops may be rather wooden, but his respect/disrespect with Wolverine is captured perfectly. There are some downsides: Halle Berry is wrong for Storm, and Storm is all but a backdrop. Sabertooth is pretty good, but he's now one-dimentional and dosen't show any of the long-standing enemity between him and Wolverine. Plus, the aforementioned history changes. Overall, this is a great start of a series of movies. I hope it does well, and we get to see more in the series. |

Overall, I rate X-Men as being
worth paying $6.50 to go see. Bring friends. <s>
