Yes, I know this review
is up long after most people have seen the movie. So what? There's a
twist: I did not just go see the Matrix Reloaded: I went and
saw the IMAX version. A most excellent way to see an action flick. I've
gone and seen IMAX movies before, but things like Fantasia 2000 and
nature tours just don't work the same way. The huge screen of the IMAX
made Reloaded more immersive than any movie I've seen in a very long
time. The big screen did make the blurred transition frames much more
obvious in the CGI, but the rest of the experience was well worth that
small flaw.
As for the movie itself, I enjoyed it. I think that it suffers a similar problem to The Two Towers, in that if it were not part of a trillogy, it's a rather empty movie. Reloaded doesn't have a whole lot of plot: It's beginning and end are patently the first and third movies. That aside, it's a good middle to the series. The fight sequences were very enjoyable and pretty creative. Lots and lots of CGI, but well done CGI. The stunts to go along with them were fun to watch as well. What there is of the plot is entertaining. The growth of Neo and Trinity's love and the results of it are well played out. They through in a lot of little hooks that make one want to see the next episode: Mr. Smith is back and in a big way, but they don't tell you what happened to him. I like where they've gone with the Oracle, the 'old' Agents, and the Architect, but I won't spoil things by telling you about them. I'm glad we only have to wait until the end of the year for the final part. If you haven't seen the first Matrix, then seeing Reloaded won't be very enjoyable. If you enjoyed the first, then Reloaded is well worth watching. |

On it's own, I'd say the Matrix:
Reloaded is worth $6.50 to go see. But if you can see it in IMAX
format, go for it, even at $11.
