And Now For Something Completely Different...
For a change of pace, the latest movie I've gone and seen is not an action, sci-fi/fantasy, or comedy. It's what falls into the classic male definition of a chick-flic. Whoah, hold your horses men! Don't click the back button quite yet. Under the Tuscan Sun isn't quite your typical chick-flic. Tuscan Sun is about a woman who's recovering from her life being crushed by a man, by traveling to a very romantic location, and learning to heal emotionally. Thus, it's great story for women. However, it's not heavy-handed about it at all. For instance, we only see the man in question once in the entire movie, and even then, we don't see his face. There isn't any man-bashing (deserved or not), and the story dosen't wallow in sentimentality at any point.
What Tuscan Sun does do is deliver a flowing plot about (seemingly) real people in living their lives through fairly normal adversity. The story delivers in a rather gentle and continuous way that has no dead spots but still delivers a good number of high points of excitement or interest. There is even enough humor to keep the audience laughing at regular intervals. All of the characters are well played by their actors, and really nothing gets in the way of enjoying the story.
So, guys, when your significant other says she wants to go see a movie, offer Under the Tuscan Sun and score some points without having to sacrifice very much at all.
Under the Tuscan Sun earns a value rating of $7.25 from CyberKender.
