Seabiscuit is the latest addition to my movie experiences. Hollywood dug up another old tale of actual events and turned it into a moneymaker. However, they did a good job this time.
Seabiscuit starts out a bit slow. There is a lot of background story that they set up in what I referred to as 'minimilast filmmaking.' They give flashes of important events intermixed with vigniettes of emotional moments to tell the background of the three main characters played by Toby Maguire, Jeff Bridges, and Chris Cooper. The three histories seem unrelated until they are brought together by the Great Depression and Seabiscuit himself. From then on, the story playes out in a more typical style.
Even though we know how things turn out, the cast and director still manage to make us root for the underdog throughout the entire movie. Emotions run high and low within the film and the audience. Overall, they told the sorty of Seabiscuit very well, apparently without too much embellishment, and most enjoyably. If you like movies like Rudy then you should definitely go out and see Seabiscuit.
CyberKender gives Seabiscuit a rating of Full Price value.
