Tonight, I went and saw the latest
James Bond movie: Die Another Day. I'll admit I haven't like Pierce's
Bond movies as much as I enjoyed Connery's and Moore's. This one was
pretty good, tho.
Bond is caught, (suprise suprise!), and tortured at the beginning
of the movie. Not the usual sort of Bond plot material. Things continue
in that vein thereafter. Halle Berry's NSA agent is as much of a bull-in-a-china-shop
agent as Bond is and holds her own on the same terms. There are a
series of other new bits, that if I told you, they'd give some very
good parts away. Needless to say, I'm going to let you see them for
yourself.
Another good thing is to see that the action and the gagets
are back in full force. I very much enjoy watching John Cleese as
Q. He brings a great sense of humor to the role. The action is largely
non-stop in this film, (Duh! It's a Bond flick!), but it dosen't get
too cartoony or out of hand. I am a little dissapointed that the swordfighting's
impressiveness is largely due to camera angels and quick changes.
But then, not all actors can fight as well as the opening scene of
Highlander. If you're a Bond fan, you won't be terribly disappointed,
even if you thing Sean is the one and only James Bond.
One final bit: I just love Moneypenny.
